30th Anniversary - Charity Gig
On Saturday 25th June 2016, Capricorn celebrated their 30th anniversary on the British Country Music scene at The Pavilion Ballroom, Bournemouth. All the proceeds from the evening along with donations collected throughout a year of planning, went to the charity Barrett's Wessex. This is a patient support charity whose principal aim is to reduce the number of deaths to oesophageal cancer through raising awareness of its predominant pre-cancerous lesion, Barrett's Oesophagus in Southampton, Wessex and beyond.
Hosted by Michelle Street, the evening was a wonderful experience and a complete success, with over 400 people attending from far and wide. Two former members, Jim Pritchard and Andrew Fletcher joined us onstage for part of the show, which was great fun. We were also so pleased to have our friend, Frank Jennings, sing several songs and as ever, he sounded fantastic. The large dance floor was full all night and everyone just had the best of times.
John's surgeon, James Byrne, was there and after a very moving speech he presented the cheque to Barrett's Wessex representative, Dave Olsen. The total raised was over £6,500 which went towards purchasing a new fine bore endoscope which will help with early detection of oesophageal cancer. A big thank you to everyone who came on the night, helped in the organisation or who donated raffle prizes and money throughout the past year. A truly wonderful night for a great cause will live long in our memories.
